Next Destination: Ilocos

Ten hours from now, I and 7 others will be heading to the north for our much awaited Ilocos tour. Plans for this trip began as early as February, again, inspired by the solesisters. I read their post about the Blue Lagoon in Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte and immediately fell in love with the place. So that was the original plan, to see the Blue Lagoon. As days progressed, things were reconsidered and opinions were heard, which made us decide not to limit our trip to Pagudpud and see other parts of Ilocos as well. We're skipping Pangasinan and La Union though since we only have two days to spare.

I will be going with the same people who joined me in the Baler trip, with the exception of Alchris and Boni. Taking their places are Kean (one of our officemates) and Joyce (Pao's friend).

The Ilocos Region is highlighted in pink

Since I'd been to Vigan, Ilocos Sur in 2009 I'd always wanted to come back. Finally, the chance has come! I'm going back there and I will sure tell you the whole story next time you see me.

BonChon Chicken

I'm back and boy am I glad to see you! I bet you're sobbing over the fact that the long break is over. Well... not me. I wouldn't be surprised if the only one less appreciative of the 3-day vacation, actually make that five to include the weekends, to give way to the Lenten season, is me. Staying in the dorm in this sweltering weather is not exactly my kind of vacation and I could only be thankful that my five-day misery has already ended.

Oh yeah I'm not here to make another personal post (yay!). Last Sunday I met with my friend, Ana to grab some coffee in SM Mall of Asia (MOA). Prior to that we had dinner, one that I had  been meaning to try for quite some time now, BonChon Chicken.

We were there at around 7:00 and damn, the place was a full house. We considered ourselves lucky when we found two vacant seats in the al fresco area.

Since the place was filled to the brim, I had to wait in line for like 5 or more minutes to place our order. When at last I reached the counter I ordered and told the cashier what I wanted, she said that our food will be served after 15 to 20 minutes. I was surprised, it's not like I ordered a freaking full-course dinner. But then I looked around, saw the crowd, and realized I should be kinder to those who are busting their asses off inside the kitchen.

When they said to wait for 15-20 minutes they weren't kidding. So when our food was finally served, I was so happy I could have planted a kiss on the service crew's cheek.

We both had a thigh rice box with drinks for only Php 95. We only differed in flavor, here's my order, chicken thigh in spicy glaze flavor. As you can see the chicken piece is just the size of the rice. Was it spicy? No! I swear to you I don't remember tasting even a hint of spiciness to it. Was it good? Well it's okay. The skin was crispy, it wasn't too oily, and the meat was tender. I'm not that happy with the size though, I want it bigger.

Here's Ana's order, chicken thigh in soy garlic. I'm sorry that the picture is blurred. But as you can see it doesn't look any different from mine. It does have a strong garlicky taste though.

Since it was my first visit to BonChon I indulged into ordering another meal, fish fillet in soy garlic (Php 125). It's four pieces of delectable and soft fillet, which in my opinion is a lot tastier than the chicken. Ana commented though that the fish fillet tasted just like her chicken. It obviously had a lot to do with the fact that they shared the same flavor, soy garlic.

So there you go guys, my first BonChon experience and I sure as hell will come back to try their other foods, hmm... maybe in their Ayala Triangle branch, soon. By the way if you are curious, BonChon is a Korean word, which means "original village." It has branches in USA, Korea, Philippines, Thailand, and Indonesia. I'm sorry you have to put up with my personal posts of late. I just haven't had a chance to try another food place to make a review on. I am also currently dealing with a personal problem... don't ask me to elaborate. Let's just say that I recently lost a battle, the kind that had Adele writing those songs of hers.

Now this poem I wrote in 2003.. yeah that long ago. It's about a boy, one of the many who never knew I existed. I saw this poem last night and realized the words have taken new meaning, one that goes so well with what I'm going through right now.

It's this familiar scent that hurts
A bird that eats the fruit
A love affair unknown to one
Who walks, oblivious

More invisible than a ghost
More tiring than a hike
A blood that eventually froze
Gave birth to lifeless eyes

Soon will be a history
A book that walks unwanted
An avoided road, slippery
Tomorrow will be forgotten

Those eyes will be the death of me
But never did they kill me
A hopeful child's silent dream
A wish, embraced by the wind

An update (June 17, 2012): I've recently turned this poem into a song.
